COLLEGE ICONS - PRAY AND PERSEVERE

'The Good Samaritan' c.1938 – by Justin O’Brien

The College has two framed copies of the painting 'The Good Samaritan' by artist Justin O’Brien. Completed in approximately 1938, the original is owned by the Sisters of the Good Samaritan.

As a young man Justin O’Brien taught Art at one of their schools, located at Glebe Point: St. Scholastica’s Training College.

Towards the end of his time there he presented the original of this print to the Sisters before leaving to enlist in the AIF in 1939.

Justin O’Brien later won the first Blake Prize for Religious Art in 1951 with 'The Virgin Enthrone'.
