'The Good Samaritan' c.1938 – by Justin O’Brien
The College has two framed copies of the painting 'The Good
Samaritan' by artist Justin O’Brien. Completed in approximately 1938, the
original is owned by the Sisters of the Good Samaritan.
As a young man Justin O’Brien taught Art at one of their
schools, located at Glebe Point: St. Scholastica’s Training College.
Towards the end of his time there he presented the original
of this print to the Sisters before leaving to enlist in the AIF in 1939.
Justin O’Brien later won the first Blake Prize for Religious
Art in 1951 with 'The Virgin Enthrone'.
