ON THE EDGE
Year 10 Ostia Program
During terms 1, 2 and 3 all Year 10 students attend an
overnight retreat at the College’s country property, “ Ostia ”. This retreat is
designed to meet the needs of students “On the Edge” of entering VCE and
adulthood with all its uncertainties surrounding friendships, religion, identity
and decision-making. A special feature of this program is the addressing of
these issues in a gender specific way. Based on students’ Homeroom group, small
groups of boys (approximately 15) and then later and separately girls (again
approximately 15) spend a day and a half with their Homeroom teacher and one
other staff member. The unique environment of Ostia allows for quite reflection
and small group discussion as well as allowing students the opportunity to
experience country life.
