CAREERS

Careers at the College

Students at the College are supported in the career decision making process by a well defined careers structure that is built on in a sequential manner as they pass through the school. The College also provides students with access to a well maintained and supported Careers Centre and an opportunity to access the College's Careers materials via external internet access.

The Careers Centre provides students with the opportunity to make fully informed decisions as to their future directions and to make successful transitions from school to work, new apprenticeships or to further study at TAFE or University level. Staff also assist students in developing an individual career plan that can be accessed at significant points within their lives.

In Year 10 all students complete an Australian Interest Measure test that can be linked to job activities that are best suited to each student. The results of the AIM test is then in conjunction with 'Job Guide' used to help each student take their first steps along the individual career planning pathway. All students are encouraged to complete individual investigations before making an appointment at the Careers Centre where an extensive on-line and published materials library is available for further research with the assistance of a member of the careers staff.

The Careers Centre has an extensive library of University and TAFE study options materials as well as occupational and vocational information and individual careers counseling is provided for students in the areas of subject selection, resume writing, new apprenticeship and job hunting, course selection and course application. It also provides an up to date calendar of careers events in all areas that can be accessed by students and parents at school and at home to ensure that they never miss an activity that may be of interest to them.

The Careers Centre also works throughout Year 12 with the senior students to ensure that they meet all VTAC dates in reference to applications for University and TAFE courses and provides an information night in August for parents to outline the application process for that year. Assistance is also available in December of each year when the ENTERs are released to ensure that each student can make a smooth transition during the Change of Preference period. Information on University and TAFE scholarships is also made available to students via the College Careers Intranet.

On Track Data

On Track data is information the College uses to track the destinations of our Year 12 students. The College also uses this information as a means to evaluate our curriculum programs to ensure that they reflect student need and assist in the processes of vocational education.
