Singin’ in the Rain

This June the 1920s were brought to life in spectacular fashion as St Monica’s College brought the all singing, all dancing, Singin’ in the Rain to town.  Over three big nights the ‘talking picture’ was the talk of the town around SMC.

Singin’ in the Rain is one of the all time classics, a movie first, it showcased the talents of stars Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds.  Likewise, our SMC students grabbed hold of their time to shine, working hard from auditions right through to production week.

This year saw the farewell performance of several talented senior students like Benjamin Hodges, a multiple Victorian Guild Award nominee and long time dedicated Performing Arts student, this year in the classic lead male role: Don Lockwood.  Alongside him as the cheeky and carefree Cosmo Brown was played by Donnie Dimase in his final year and first lead role.

Completing a full circle on the SMC stage was Emily Vincent – she started out as Annie in our 2007 production and finished off with the incredibly funny portrayal of Lina Lamont.  In addition to these fine performances was the very talented Madeline Perrone. These students along with many other supporting leads led a fine cast of performers out onto the stage.

As always the Band was fantastic, showcasing some very talented student and staff musicians and the backstage crew worked very hard behind the scenes bringing 1920s Hollywood to life.  Singin’ in the Rain is a big show and it wouldn’t have come together so well without the hard work and dedication of all the cast crew and band members involved.  It is a privilege to work with so many talented individuals, all working together to help each other look good.
