VICTORIAN CERTIFICATE OF
APPLIED LEARNING
OVERVIEW/BACKGROUND
In 2003, the Victorian Government commenced the state wide
implementation of the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) to
improve the pathways for young people from secondary school to work and/or
further education and training. St. Monica’s College is offering this
certificate for the first time in 2005 at Year 11. The program has grown as an
alternative complementary qualification to the Victorian Certificate of
Education (VCE) and assisting students develop pathways beyond schooling.
Individual Student Learning Programs
Students enrolling in VCAL at St Monica’s College students
are required to develop an individual Learning Program in consultation with
their teachers, Head of Vocational Education and the Senior Teacher VCE/VET. The
VCAL curriculum is delivered through an integrated, project based approach.
