Sanctus Augustinus

Sanctus Augustinus is the fourth sculpture within the official Monican Collection of external sculptures. ‘Sanctus’ means ‘holy’. Like the other three, it was designed and created by Anthony Russo of Orchard Design. Sanctus Augustinus is attached to Augustine House on the Dalton Road frontage and it was installed in 2017.

Like the other three pieces in the Monican Collection, it features the Good Samaritan cross (a slimmer version) with added distinctive features. Its simplicity is its main design feature. A bishop’s mitre reminds the viewer that the cross commemorates Saint Augustine, son of St Monica and Bishop of Hippo. The words ‘Augustine House’ form part of the sculpture.
