New Training Facilities
As part of the drive towards Excellence, St
Monica’s College has made a major financial commitment to improving facilities.
During 2002, two staff went on a study tour of Europe to study the latest
developments in all weather playing surfaces. After studying the available
surfaces it was decided to put in place a LSR fibre Phiolon, full sized soccer
pitch with lighting. A second area of the same material was developed to enable
Tennis, Hockey and Five a side soccer to take place.
The Soccer pitch is the
only FIFA accredited soccer pitch of this type in the Southern Hemisphere to
this date. The pitch will enable training to happen all year round regardless of
weather. The same material will be used by Ajax Amsterdam in their Arena Stadium
from the beginning of the next Dutch soccer season. The Victorian Soccer
Federation are investigating the use of this same surface for their new Soccer
Headquarters at John Cain Reserve in Northcote.
Further development of the College’s Sports and
Assembly Hall will enable the squads to shower more efficiently with the
development of larger changing rooms and more showering
capability.
"This is the only playing surface of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. An all weather artificial soccer
pitch."
"The first game of soccer played on our new soccer
pitch: St Monica’s versus CRC North Keilor. For the record St Monica’s College
won 1 – 0."
