VCAL Senior

General Description

The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) is a senior secondary certificate based on vocationally orientated applied learning principles.

At Senior level, knowledge and employability skills development leads to a high level of interpersonal skills, independent action and achievement of tasks that require decision-making and leadership.

Here, at St Monica's such skills are attained through a rich variety of project based course-work where students are expected to meet the necessary standard. At the Senior level, it is expected that students are engaged in fully independent activities, often with community partners, that are somewhat autonomous from teacher interaction. The course provides an accredited program of studies in the following compulsory strands.

  • Literacy
  • Numeracy
  • Work-Related Skills
  • Personal Development Skills
  • Industry Skills (fulfilled through a minimum of one VET Certificate and additional VET and/or VCE Units)

Successful completion of the Senior VCAL will provide students with skills that are important for life, work and further study as well as a VCAL Certificate and/or Statement of Attainment. The VCAL program will develop and extend pathways for students from school to further education, training and work. For example upon completion of VCAL, students can pathway into a traineeship, an apprenticeship and/or TAFE course.

If you have any questions concerning the Senior VCAL Program please contact: Mrs Helen Rabenda - VCAL Coordinator.
