​Year 10 Course Structure
Planning a Year 10 Course at St Monica's College
A Year 10 Student Program is normally made up of three core subjects (Religious
Education, English and Mathematics) which are studied for the whole year, and
eight other electives, of which four are studied per semester. You must select
elective subjects from the Science, Humanities and Food
Technology/Health/Physical Education groups, as indicated on the Web Preferences
web site. Other elective subjects are optional. For a chart which displays in a

For entry to some elective subjects such as Football Excellence, Accelerated
Mathematics and VCE Units, you will need to obtain a teacher recommendation and
to have demonstrated specified levels of competence. Students who wish to
undertake the Football Excellence Program need to demonstrate a high level of
skill in pre-selection trials which take place early in Term 3.
Year 10 students have the option to study a VCE subject. Units 1 & 2 VCE
subjects are normally studied at Year 11. Students may not select more than one
VCE subject and should be prepared to select both Units 1 & 2 (2 electives) of
the study. The VCE studies offered to Year 10 students in 2016 are Biology,
Environmental Science, Psychology, Media and Business Management. In general,
students must have demonstrated above average performance across English, Maths
and Science in Semester 1 of Year 9 to be eligible. Different arrangements apply
for HORIZONS students - consult with Ms H. Luppino, HORIZONS Coordinator for
details.

members of the College staff
