Update 17, 2021 on SMC Response to Coronavirus (COVID – 19)

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Carers,

You may not think you are, but you are winners when it comes to supporting your children through this long lockdown amidst COVID-19.

Parents, Guardians, and Carers, take a bow, we have come to the end of another term. Indeed, many Monican students are carers too, looking after younger siblings while parents are out of the home. They deserve to take a bow too.

This has been a rugged and hard term for Melburnians as we have dealt with the awful challenge of isolation, insecurity, and fear of catching COVID. The northern suburbs have been particularly hard hit. Daily, we see high numbers of cases here and in other regions of Australia and the world. We hear of numerous COVID exposure sites, Tiers 1 and 2, and hospital numbers are increasing, even in intensive care units.

There are controversies about vaccination, and this causes confusion and anxiety. At SMC, we recommend that all those who can be vaccinated take that decision.
Concerns exist about the effects on our children’s education, and we are working so hard to ensure that our delivery of courses is successful as students persevere with the separation and lack of close contact with friends and teachers.

I thank families for contacting the College when you have any matters to share with us, whether they be financial, counselling needs or educational concerns. It is mightily reassuring for College leaders to know that parents trust us and have faith that we can be of assistance during this time.

It is holiday time after Thursday, 16 September, for a period extending until the return to school date of Monday, 4 October. I wish your children well, I extend to you every best thought, and together I am sure that we hope and pray for the earliest and safest return to normal as possible.

Shalom – Anywhere You Go.
