Update 2, 2021 on SMC Response to Coronavirus (COVID – 19)

Parents, Guardians and Friends,

The Premier of Victoria has announced this morning that the lockdown of the State of Victoria concludes at midnight tonight.  The entire College reopens tomorrow, and normal operations and activities will apply.  I look forward to welcoming your child(ren) back.

I take this opportunity to brief families on the Tutor Learning Program.

The challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and remote learning have affected students in various ways.  There were many students whose learning was significantly impacted in 2020 due to the challenges associated with learning from home.

At the end of 2020, the Victorian Government announced a large scale initiative (Tutor Learning Program) to engage teaching professionals to work in schools as tutors throughout 2021 to address this matter.

In response, St Monica’s College has, at this early stage, employed two tutors to support students impacted.  The tutors will work in class with students, offering intensive assistance throughout the year, to address learning gaps that may have emerged due to the pandemic.

At the same time, our full time specialist staff will continue to deliver high quality targeted and differentiated teaching.  As always, we will work together to ensure that no child is left behind.

It is critical that staff and students continue to follow all regulations so masks must be worn by students on public transport and in class and outside if appropriate social distancing cannot be observed.

The College will maintain its rigorous cleaning program.

God bless all Monicans – Shalom, Anywhere You Go.

Yours faithfully,

Brian Hanley

Principal
