Update 19 on SMC Response to Coronavirus (COVID – 19)
Dear Parents, Guardians, Friends,
Tomorrow is the Feast of Saint Monica, our patron saint. Most parents (particularly those of you who are former students of this College) will know that St Monica’s Week is the most important five school days of the calendar year.
All this has been cancelled due to COVID-19. No Annual Oration, no Sports Breakfast, and no St Monica’s Day Mass, commissioning of College Captains, or the much-loved Afternoon Lunch and Funfair.
I extend to all parents, guardians and friends of our student Monicans, a very peaceful St Monica’s Day 2020. There is no more that I can do but to wish you well as you lovingly support your child(ren) in whatever ways or venue you do. As your child’s Principal and as your committed supporter, I salute you in your current efforts, thank you for maintaining your child here at SMC, extend the assistance of the College whenever and however you require it, and I hope that Saint Monica inspires you to pray and persevere.
There is little change in organizational matters at this time in Stage 4 restrictions. Online teaching and learning continue, Minders to Monicans are still maintaining contact, the College operates daily on skeletal onsite staffing (me and a roster of 7 staff + our grounds and buildings crew), and teaching and non-teaching staff are working remotely.
You know that virtually all College activities have had to be cancelled or at best postponed. Our services, personal, financial and counselling, are still available to all families. Every effort is being made to keep spirits high, communication flowing and thoughts positive.
So, this is simply a short update to assure parents and friends that you and your wellbeing are top priority, we are a highly functioning College for your child(ren), our organization is to a high level, and we stand ready, cleaned and excited to welcome back the children at the first opportunity. Please remember re-enrolments for 2021 are due by 16 October.
Blessed and loving Saint Monica,
Faithful patron of our College,
We praise and pray to you on your Feast Day 2020.
Accompany your College community on our journey through this pandemic
That we may return to school full of life and love of being Monican.
