Update 8 on SMC Response to Coronavirus (COVID – 19)

Parents, Guardians and Friends,

Best wishes to you and your children as this Coronavirus situation continues.  I think it is true to state that no one is finding this period of life very easy, but we are obliged to persevere as long as Government mandates us.  Our College is observing the regulations and directions from the State Government and Catholic Education Melbourne in relation to school matters.

You, your children and our staff are working hard in this unique situation.  We need to be patient, tolerant and understanding of each other: we all have functions to undertake and we are all confronting the challenges of remote learning in the best way possible.

I have decided to nominate Monday, 18 May as a Wellness Day.  This means that staff have been told to withhold sending work or emails to students for twenty-four hours (giving a long weekend), I shall be urging students to take a break that day and not to send emails to staff for the day, and I hope that for those of you who are working closely with your children at home, it will provide a welcome break.  It will not adversely affect the education of your child.

The entire College will be closed on Monday, 18 May.  Several other schools are also proclaiming such ‘wellness’ days.

We pray for all those families who have lost loved ones and friends.

Grant unto them the sustaining peace and comfort they require.

Be with those who are in essential services in our community

As they fulfil their duties with devotion and competence.

St Monica, pray for us.
