My name is Michelle Keele and I am the Assistant Principal (Learning and Curriculum). In his last update on the College website, the Principal, Mr Brian Hanley indicated that I would be in contact with you regarding remote learning.
Please note: Remote Learning for St Monica’s College officially begins on Wednesday, 15 April 2020 if the Government makes the decision to close schools.
Some teachers have already begun to upload materials to their Learning Management System (LMS) but that is in preparation for closure, and students are not expected to start these tasks during the Term Break.
However, some students (especially the Senior Students) may have been set work for the Easter break, as they would be in any year, and the expectation is that they will undertake that work in the next two weeks.
I have provided a number of documents to this letter which you may find of use. Please click on the links to access these.
- A list of the subjects undertaken at Years 7 to 12, the number of periods each of those subjects have allocated each week and when teachers have been asked to upload work
- A document for students which outlines things they should consider in relation to their working environment, routine, support and accountability
- A template for setting up a study schedule.
You can access your child’s weekly timetable via SIMON but please be mindful that is unlikely that your son or daughter will be able to undertake the same volume of work remotely.
I believe it is important to remember that our young people are anxious about the current situation and, probably more importantly, we are asking them to undertake their learning in a very different way.
There will be times when they struggle, be assured that teachers are working hard to provide the best opportunities for students to achieve.
