SCHOOL NURSE

The role of School Nurse at the College focuses on health promotion and primary prevention.

An important goal is to promote a positive healthy lifestyle across the College community. This may include health education and training sessions for staff and parents and also the development of policies and protocols in order to minimise risk taking behaviour.

The school nurse is well placed to:

Play a key role in reducing negative health outcomes and risk taking behaviours among young people, including drug and alcohol abuse, tobacco smoking, eating disorders, obesity, injuries.
Focus on prevention of ill health and problem behaviours by ensuring coordination between the school and community based health and support services.
Support the school community in addressing contemporary health and social issues facing young people and their families.
When appropriate, provide primary health care through professional clinical nursing, including assessment, care, referral and support.

Mrs Olivera Atanasovska

Degrees and Certifications:
RN, BHlthSc (Nursing), GradCert (ChildAdolscentHealth)
With 20 years of experience ranging from nursing in areas such as paediatrics, neonatal nursing, and paediatric asthma education, Olivera has held various responsibilities in her nursing career such as training and assessing nurses. She has extensive experience within hospitals both nationally and globally. In Australia, she has worked at Mercy Hospital for Woman, Austin Health, Royal Children’s Hospital, and currently continues to work with The Northern Hospital. She transition into school nursing and finds working with young people extremely satisfying.
Olivera successfully completed various qualifications. She completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and Graduate Certificate in Child and Adolescent Health from RMIT University, T.A.E. from Victoria University and Neonatal Level II Nursing from Melbourne University. Olivera is also a Nurse Immunisation Practitioner, which she obtained from the Australian Royal College of Nursing.

Mr Jian Samuel

Degrees and Certifications:
Bachelor of Nursing, Australian Catholic University Melbourne
Approaching 10 years of nursing, Jian commenced his career at The Northern Hospital and works at St Monica’s College where he completed his secondary education. Jian currently practices in the Paediatric Ward where he provides treatment for various medical conditions in children and babies.
He also works as a Wound Consultant for a private company. Jian has worked as a General Practice Nurse and worked together with Local Doctors to help manage
medical issues in the community. He has also worked at RMIT University Bundoora as a Lecturer and Clinical Educator. Jian is married with two young children, both under 5 and enjoys music and plays in a band.
