ASH
PROGRAM
A survey conducted at St Monica’s College in 2002 showed that homework was a major cause of stress for students.
To address this issue, the After School Homework (ASH) Program was born and has operated in the Pamela Coyne Library at the Dalton Road Campus since that time.
ASH provides students with a quiet area in which to do homework, study or work on assignments. Students have access to the resources and facilities of the Pamela Coyne Library including internet, word processing, printing and photocopying. The most valuable resource for the students is the expertise of teachers who generously give their time to the program. The Educational Support team also supports the program by having an aide available each afternoon.
ASH operates from Monday to Thursday from 3.30 pm until 4.30 pm and is available to students from both campuses. Students sign in on arrival and are provided with a healthy snack before commencing their work. Students are not obliged to stay for the full hour but must sign out when they leave so staff can monitor their attendance. There is no cost to parents for attendance.
ASH has become an integral part of the College program for many students and is another way in which St Monica’s College ensures that it caters for the individual needs of all students. ASH also has two Year 12 Tutors available each night to further assist students.
