Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning Courses

The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) is a senior school certificate that is a vocational alternative to the VCE. Students undertaking the VCAL may be interested in a pathway to an apprenticeship, traineeship, further TAFE study or employment. VCAL study at St Monica’s encompasses mandatory literacy and numeracy units, personal development skills, work related skills, and industry specific skills, alongside a students elected VET studies. Students complete an Intermediate Certificate in Year 11 and a Senior Certificate in Year 12. Students in Years 11 and 12 will have the option, and are strongly encouraged, to complete a Structured Workplace Learning Placement.

Students considering VCAL could be:

Students who are seeking a vocational pathway on completion of school

Students who learn best where learning is practical, ‘hands-on’ or ‘applied’ learning
