NURSE
The role of School Nurse at the College focuses on health promotion and primary prevention.
An important goal is to promote a positive healthy lifestyle across the College community. This may include health education and training sessions for staff and parents and also the development of policies and protocols in order to minimise risk taking behaviour.
THE SCHOOL NURSE IS WELL PLACED TO:
- Play a key role in reducing negative health outcomes and risk taking behaviours among young people, including drug and alcohol abuse, tobacco smoking, vaping, eating disorders, obesity, injuries. Focus on prevention of ill health and problem behaviours by ensuring coordination between the school and community based health and support services.
- Support the school community in addressing contemporary health and social issues facing young people and their families.
- When appropriate, provide primary health care through professional clinical nursing and paramedicine skills , including assessment, care, referral and support.
Our college nurse is an integral part of our commitment to providing a safe and healthy environment for all. With expertise in healthcare management, the college nurse oversees the administration of medications, responds to health emergencies, and ensures that students receive prompt and appropriate care. Beyond addressing immediate health concerns, our nurse plays a pivotal role in health promotion by designing and implementing educational programs that empower students to make informed choices about their well-being and ensuring staff are up to date with relevant training.
Whether managing chronic health conditions, promoting immunisation compliance, or providing confidential health counselling, our college nurse is a compassionate and reliable resource for students and their families. Collaborating closely with teachers, administrators, and the wider community, the college nurse advocates for policies that contribute to a thriving and inclusive learning environment. MEET VICTTORIA
Meet Victtoria, our dedicated college nurse, bringing over seven years of invaluable experience from various fields. Victtoria commenced her nursing journey at John Fawkner Private Hospital, specialising in general surgical and medical wards. It was here that she honed her skills and developed a profound understanding of patient care in critical settings.
Victtoria then transitioned to the Emergency Department at the Northern Hospital, where her passion for critical care flourished. Following her experiences in hospital settings, Victtoria took on a pivotal role in healthcare outside traditional boundaries. She ventured into establishing multiple respiratory clinics, showcasing her leadership and management skills. In response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, Victtoria played a crucial role in managing and running these clinics. Specialising in COVID-19 swabbing and immunisations, these clinics became vital community resources, serving over 200 patients daily.
Victtoria’s commitment to public health and her ability to adapt and lead in challenging circumstances make her an exceptional asset to our school community. Her expertise in both clinical and community healthcare enhances our ability to provide comprehensive and responsive care to our students, families, and staff.
